THE ENCHANTED SKETCHBOOK: 85 Days on an Island

Oliver and I were just minding our own business, until we found the enchanted sketchbook. Now we’re stuck on a deserted island, and we might never find our way home…

Storms, shipwrecks, secret codes, mazes in dark caves- these aren’t things your parents teach you to deal with when you’re ten. And it all gets worse if you’ve got your four-year-old brother in tow. He’s just such a loose cannon!

With nothing but an enchanted sketchbook and a pencil, how can the two of us hope to solve the mysteries of the island and get home to our parents, preferably in time for dinner?

Review:

This is a perfect book for children between 7- 10 years old and it is the first instalment of the Enchanted series.

Well, this book was a pleasant surprise from a debut author. The story is full of imaginative elements and where the two main characters Lara, 10, and Oliver, 4, have a great sibling relationship. Lara and Oliver found a sketchbook and soon they realised that it is not an ordinary book. One evening Oliver drew an island and the next morning the woke up in the middle of one and soon the adventure starts.

Children love reading about adventures and magic in a story where they can identify with the main characters and where they can use their own imagination and this book has achieved this very well. The enchanted sketchbook is a short read but it is the perfect length for children who are just getting confident reading something a bit more complex than picture books.

I would had like to see a bit more depth in the story but overall is an entertaining story for children. The story leaves you wanting to know more about what is going too happened and what other adventures are waiting for Lara and Oliver.
